چکیده

The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP)’s Release’8 Long Term Evolution (LTE) defines the next step of 3G technology. LTE offers significant improvements over previous technologies such as UMTS/HSPA. Higher downlink and uplink speeds, lower latency and simpler network architecture are among the new features that are provided. One of the central features that provides transmission robustness is hybridARQ, which in LTE provides physical layer retransmission using incremental redundancy and soft combining. In this paper we propose a low-complexity model based on AWGN link level simulations that is capable of reliably predicting the BLER improvement due to the use of incremental redundancy H-ARQ in LTE.

TCP Performance Degradation of In-Sequence Delivery in LTE Link Layer

LTE networks have been rapidly commercialized for 4G cellular communications systems in all over the world as well as Korea. Because many internet applications use TCP as their transport layer protocol, TCP throughput measurements and its performance improvements in LTE networks is very important. In this paper, we analyze the impact of “in-sequence delivery” in LTE link layer on TCP RTT increm...

Improved Techniques for Retransmission and Relaying in Wireless Systems

The last three decades have seen significant advances in the wireless communication field. As the data rates of wireless systems are increasing, the demand for mobile services also is increasing rapidly. Like other natural resources, radio spectrum suitable for mobile wireless communications is also limited. In order to keep up with this increasing demand, there is a requirement of new signal p...

Adaptive Modulation and Coding with Hybrid-ARQ for Latency-constrained Networks

Traffic generated by machine to machine (M2M) communication or online gaming will be a large and integral part of the traffic transported by LTE-advanced and beyond networks. This traffic is characterized by sporadic and low-throughput packet arrivals. It must be scheduled under a latency constraint. Sporadic traffic creates environments where the channel-quality information (CQI) is outdated o...

Exponential Effective SIR Link Performance Model for LTE Downlink

3GPP LTE is the evolution of UMTS which will make possible to deliver next generation high quality multimedia services according to the users’ expectations. The flexibility of the downlink OFDM radio interface with Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC), MIMO and H-ARQ plays a crucial role in achieving the low latency and high spectral efficiency promised by the new radio access standard. This pa...

A Modified Empirical Path Loss Model for 4G LTE Network in Lagos, Nigeria

The quality of signal at a particular location is essential to determine the performance of mobile system. The problem of poor network in Lagos, Nigeria needs to be addressed especially now that the attention is toward online learning and meetings. Existing empirical Path Loss (PL) models designed elsewhere are not appropriate for predicting the 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) signal in Nigeria. T...
